Key Account Manager, Adult Sales

The opportunity

An excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and sales/profit hungry professional with experience of selling in to UK supermarkets and/or other UK Key Accounts to join the fast-moving and high-performing UK Sales team of a top 5 UK publisher. We are looking for a confident communicator to work collaboratively with internal and external contacts to ambitiously increase our supermarket sales in line with Bloomsbury’s overall growth plans over the next 3 years.

A key member of the UK Sales team, the Key Account Manager for Supermarkets will sell all Bloomsbury Consumer and Special Interest titles and will be a key voice in UK Sales discussions for title acquisitions. This role will be predominantly self-sufficient supported in part by a shared team sales assistant.

The role will report in to the Senior Sales Manager in our Adult team who in turn reports in to the Sales Director responsible for the Adult Consumer and Online channel.
 

The role

  • Work closely with Adult Consumer, Special Interest and Agency teams to maximize the sales of Bloomsbury Adult Consumer and Special Interest titles through supermarkets, with a focus on achieving and exceeding the annual Adult Consumer and Special Interest sales budgets.
  • Manage the trading relationships and sell-in cycles for the following key accounts (subject to change by agreement with employee and line manager where relevant) - UK Supermarkets.
  • Create customer presentations, present new frontlist titles and backlist range titles on a regular basis to key accounts, and negotiate and deliver promotional and range deals.
  • Keep customers informed regarding Award Winners/Marketing & PR Campaigns and other highlighted titles and series.
  • Analyse sales data/effectiveness of Sales & Marketing campaigns on ROI etc.
  • Conduct annual strategic reviews of key accounts’ business with Bloomsbury and make recommendations to drive sales in all forward strategic customer plans.
  • Provide general support to the UK Adult Sales Director and Senior Sales Manager as required, including market research, data analysis, researching acquisition figures and inputting acquisition figures into Biblio.
  • Help other UK Sales colleagues with e.g. author signing sessions with Bloomsbury authors, and provide absence cover for colleagues as required e.g. holidays/summer hours. Provide general ad hoc support for wider UK Sales shared tasks.
  • Liaise with Bloomsbury stock management teams and MDL warehouse teams to ensure efficient processing of and timely delivery of customer orders.
  • Participate in the publishing process – from the acquisition process to publication working closely with colleagues from the editorial, marketing and publicity departments across both Adult Consumer and Special Interest Divisions. Read weekly title submissions and give confident, informed opinions.
     

Knowledge, skills and experience 

  • Experience of selling in to supermarkets with proven sales growth preferred.
  • Excellent communicator who is confident with dealing with people at all levels, particularly on the phone and over email/video.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and focused on efficiency at all times.
  • Excellent time-management, prioritisation and organisational skills, with a close eye for detail and keen awareness of deadlines.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with key contacts as well as in-house colleagues.
  • Experience of multi-tasking and prioritising a busy work-load with competing demands on your time.
  • Ability to adapt to changing daily tasks.
  • Strong numerical skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Teams.
  • Proficient with systems such as Biblio, Nielsen, Cognos and Vista.

Additional information

The role is a full-time permanent position and is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred).  Allocated office days for this role are: Monday and Tuesday
