Finance Manager – Fixed-Term, Finance

The opportunity

This role sits within the Finance department located at Bloomsbury’s Head Office in Bedford Square, London. The Finance Manager leads on financial reporting for Global Bloomsbury operations with a focus on efficiency and process improvement. The role is responsible for producing robust monthly financial accounts, maintaining an appropriate controls environment and ensuring compliance with the Group’s accounting standards (IFRS).

The role

  • Review balance sheet reconciliations for UK and US, recommending changes to apply best practice and standardisation of processes.
  • Build revised balance sheet reconciliations for UK and US with a focus on automation and efficiency.
  • Ensure that key control checks are developed in the balance sheet reconciliations so that errors can be detected and remediated.
  • Review the controls framework in respect of financial reporting, ensuring that robust and appropriate controls are in place.
  • Develop process notes for the new reconciliations and provide training to the team on new processes. 
  • Review the working day timetable, proposing strategic changes to workflows so that timely information can be delivered to the Group.
  • Assist with key projects and business developments which require changes to accounting.
     

Knowledge, skills and experience 

Academic Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent)

 

Work Experience

  • Experience of delivering monthly management accounts in a high pressure, commercial environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering process and systems improvements.
  • Able to identify and raise risks, threats and opportunities.

 

Interpersonal & Management skills

  • Able to develop successful relationships with senior staff across the Group.
  • Proactive, energetic, pragmatic and hardworking.
  • Highly resilient and adaptable – able to work under pressure and manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written, and ability to present financial information in a manner that can be understood by all recipients
  • Fast and accurate, attention to detail
  • Proactive and motivated, able to show initiative and work independently
  • Strong technical, analytical and judgement skills
  • Problem solver with a track record of undertaking and delivering projects

Technical Skills/Experience

  • Highly proficient in advanced excel functionality (sumifs, vlookup and pivot tables)

 

Additional information

The role is a full-time 12 month temporary position

Salary Pay Point: £70,000

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred).  Allocated office days for this role are Tuesday and Thursday.
