The Vacancy
Bloomsbury Collections is our flagship eBook platform, which offers excellence and originality in scholarship in the arts, humanities and social sciences. With the recent acquisition of Rowman and Littlefield’s academic titles, the platform is set to go through a period of significant growth.
We’re looking for someone who will manage the digital platform, ensuring that it meets the needs of scholarly users within our global customer base of academic libraries.
You will be joining a dynamic and friendly digital product team, who are re-imagining Bloomsbury’s academic publishing for a digital environment. We are part of Bloomsbury Digital Resources (BDR), which sits within the wider Bloomsbury Academic and Professional Division.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Bloomsbury Collections, you will work with stakeholders across BDR, including editorial, sales, and UX colleagues, as well as our third-party technology partner.
Bloomsbury values the importance of life–work balance and we offer flexible working options. This role is only expected to be in the office 2 days per week (Wednesdays and Thursdays) and we offer a core hours policy of 10:00 am to 2:30 pm, with ‘Flexible Fridays’ throughout the year. See below for further details.
The role
You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Bloomsbury Collections platform, including the monthly release process. You will work with developers, content architects, UX and Product Management colleagues to trouble-shoot issues and you will contribute to the strategic development of the platform. You will be expected to act as a product champion, by defining requirements based on user research and usage data, and by using your expertise to respond to queries from sales, customer/technical support and customers, escalating issues as required.
Knowledge, skills and experience
We want someone who has a strong track record of working on a website, digital product, or eBook platform, preferably in an academic publishing environment. You will be an adept problem-solver and be able to manage your time effectively to get work done on schedule. You should be very comfortable with technical detail and systems, and be able to communicate clearly to developers as well as less technically minded colleagues. You’ll be confident with large datasets and understand how to work with usage analytics. If you also have experience in XML, publishing metadata systems, Jira and/or user experience research, then we’ll be even more interested in you.
