The opportunity

This role sits within the Finance department located at Bloomsbury’s Head Office in Bedford Square, London. The Finance Manager will manage the Finance processes in relation to the transitional services in respect of a recent major acquisition made by Bloomsbury.  The Finance Manager will be the main point of contact with the transitional services provider and be responsible for the postings and flow of data for the acquisition into our accounting system.    The role is responsible for producing robust monthly financials for the acquisition and maintaining an appropriate controls environment.

The role will be for a 6-month period covering the transitional service period with the potential to extend depending on the level of work required for the wind down of the transitional services and integration to Bloomsbury’s processes.

The role

  • Map and build dynamic processes to bring in financial information of the acquisition into our accounting system promptly.
  • Be the main point of contact with the transitional services provider(“Provider”) in respect of the Finance related transitional services.
  • Post monthly results of the acquisition based on information provided by the Provider.
  • Analytically review the monthly results of the acquisition to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations related to the acquisition.
  • Be responsible for ensuring receipts from the Provider are timely and accurate.
  • Build a process to wind down the balances in relation to the transitional services once that period has finished.
  • Ensure that key control checks are developed in the processes so that errors can be detected and remediated promptly.
  • Assist with the integration of the acquisition into Bloomsbury’s processes and systems.
     

Knowledge, skills and experience 

Academic Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent)

Work Experience

  • Experience of delivering monthly management accounts in a high pressure, commercial environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering process and systems improvements.
  • Able to identify and raise risks, threats and opportunities.

Interpersonal & Management skills

  • Able to develop successful relationships with senior staff across the Group.
  • Proactive, energetic, pragmatic and hardworking.
  • Highly resilient and adaptable – able to work under pressure and manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written, and ability to present financial information in a manner that can be understood by all recipients
  • Fast and accurate, attention to detail
  • Proactive and motivated, able to show initiative and work independently
  • Strong technical, analytical and judgement skills
  • Problem solver with a track record of undertaking and delivering projects

Technical Skills/Experience

  • Highly proficient in advanced excel functionality (sumifs, vlookup and pivot tables)

Additional information

The role is a full-time fixed term position for 6 months and to start as soon as possible.

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred).  Allocated office days for this role are Monday and Tuesday.
