The Vacancy

The opportunity

We are looking for a talented, creative Designer to join our highly productive Academic and

Professional Division, which publishes across a range of subjects including Philosophy, Education, Theology, Linguistics, Design, History, Law, Drama, Film and Media, and Fashion. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop a career in book cover design, working across a broad range of projects.

The role

cover design of new titles across selected lists
generating final cover artwork (using Adobe CS) for new titles
liaising with editorial, marketing and production colleagues, and external suppliers on cover design, status, schedules, and budgets
ensure company systems are kept up-to-date with cover data, files and status
conduct fortnightly Cover Meeting with title Editors

Knowledge, skills and experience

experience working in an academic publishing environment
proven technical expertise (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat)
experience of managing freelance designers and illustrators
excellent organizational and time-management skills
the ability to process a large volume of work quickly and accurately
a keen eye for detail
the confidence to liaise with internal stakeholders and external suppliers

The role is a full-time permanent position

Salary Pay Range: £30,000 - £32,000 per annum

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Wednesday and Thursday

This position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To assist candidates who want to start and to establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury offers an interest-free rental deposit to support securing somewhere to live. The rental deposit loan can be up to £3,000 and will be paid back over 2 years.
