Editorial Assistant, Children’s Education

The opportunity

Bloomsbury Education is looking for an enthusiastic, well-organised Editorial Assistant to join a small dynamic team publishing exciting books for teachers, parents and children. The list includes teaching resources, professional development titles, fiction, poetry and home learning. Reporting to the Editorial Director and working closely with the editorial team this role offers the opportunity to develop editorial skills as well as providing key administrative support for the department.


The role

  • Supporting the editors, senior editors and commissioning editors administratively
  • Arranging, preparing agendas for and minuting key departmental meetings
  • Maintaining the publishing schedule – making changes as agreed in meetings and at the request of the commissioning team
  • Ensuring title records are up to date in our Biblio title management system
  • Organising and assisting editors with the creation of advance information sheets, catalogue copy and book fair materials
  • Assisting with proofreading, photo research and editing of projects as required by the editorial and commissioning team 
  • Liaising with sales, production, design, marketing and editors to ensure that sales materials are produced on time
  • Reading submissions on behalf of the commissioning editors and assisting them in responding
  • Sending out book proposals for review, chasing and tracking feedback
  • Responding to general book-related queries
  • Representing the education list at sales conferences and events as required

 

Skills, knowledge, experience

  • Organised and confident with good communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language, high standards of accuracy and a keen eye for detail
  • Strong organisational skills and a rigorous, self-motivated meeting deadlines and managing schedules
  • Able to prioritise and manage time effectively
  • Some office experience preferred
  • Demonstrable interest in education publishing essential and experience an advantage

The role is a full-time, permanent position.

Salary Pay Point or Range: £27,000

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred).  Allocated office days for this role are: Monday and Tuesdays

This position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To assist candidates who want to start and to establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury offers an interest-free rental deposit to support securing somewhere to live. The rental deposit loan can be up to £3,000 and will be paid back over 2 years.
